Currently Coveting: Spring Trends.

As spring tries to make its way to us, and summer not too far behind, I can’t help but day dream about my warm weather wardrobe and the things that are inspiring me for the upcoming seasons. It seems to be manifesting into care-free looks that read as effortless and simple yet also pack a feminine and high-end punch. Here are the rules I’m living by when the warmer weather hits:

Keep it flowing. Call it the heat or the easy, breezy vibe of the season, I’m lusting over pieces with movement. Exaggerated silhouettes and ruffles (the adult kind) are so trendy right now — plus, dramatic pieces make dressing super simple.

Minimalism over maximalism. Whether it’s spring, or any other season, I like being able to rely on delicate accessories that become like a second skin. Even more so now, I don’t want to  think of statement jewelry when I’m running out to grab some rosé al fresco with friends or jumping in the lake on the weekends.

Denim on denim. Although denim initially seems too heavy for spring and summer, it’s all about switching to lightweight versions of their winter counter parts like skirts, vests and chambray cold shoulder tops.

B-A-N(-D)-A-N-A-S. Bandanas have been my go-to accessory for a while now, but luckily silk ones transfer perfectly from winter to spring. It feels European chic with an air of jetsetter on holiday.

Keeping it Casual.

Recently I’ve been super motivated to clean out the old, worn and unused items in my closet to make room (and money) for things that I actually love and wear. One part of my closet that’s taken a hit is the ‘comfy clothes’ pile: IE sweatshirts, sweatpants and t-shirts. I figured it’s worth the $$$ to invest in polished sweats that I can actually wear outside the confines of the apartment. Let’s be honest, there’s certainly no need to hold on to a high school t-shirt that’s riddled with shameful ice cream stains…

So, where’s the first place I thought to look? Madewell of course. It’s the perfect place for high quality basics with an All-American vibe that never go out of style. Let’s just hope my tendency to spill is gone for good, just like those stained clothes are.

For anyone that has been following my blog for a while, my love of Zara is probably very obvious. Although I’m beginning to transition out of the fast fashion phase and would rather save up to splurge on more high-end, quality pieces, there’s something that always pulls me back. You just can’t beat the quality to cost ratio that Zara can provide. I always can rely on the brand to have up to the minute items that will also last in my closet for seasons to come. That being said, you can bet I always have a list of items stacked in my cart just waiting to come home…

Currently Coveting: NYFW.

New York Fashion Week has come (and gone) for another season and brought with it new trends to lust over… as expected. It seems that every year the designers get more expansive in their range and as a result, there are trends at every end of the spectrum; from Western vibes at Calvin Klein to sleek cutouts and sheer layers at Proenza Schouler.

There was more velvet all over the runway, midi skirts at Carolina Herrera and J. Crew, 90’s-inspired wind suits at Public School, suiting at Zimmerman, fur bags at Kenzo and combat boots at Altuzarra — just to name some highlights.

Shop some NYFW inspired pieces below that I am currently coveting. Until next season!

Well, February is here and it has come with its fair share (read: feet) of snow and freezing temps. I’m blaming it for my blogging hiatus. There’s little motivation to get up and dressed and more incentive to cuddle on the couch and binge watch Shameless. Anyway…

When it is time to get out of the house, winter dressing is all about layers and piling them on in any creative way you’d like. I chose to start with fishnets (the accessory of the season) + a culotte jumpsuit + some hefty booties + a bandana. Add a duster jacket from one of my favorite brands Vetta Capsule, and a leather one, and my look was complete. #TwoCoatsAreBetterThanOne

Using my go-to basics as the foundation of a look is a no brainer; all that’s left is to throw on a killer coat and some boots. I’m obsessed with the high ankle style of this pair from Public Desire.

And this just in…

Currently Coveting: Athleisure.

Let’s be honest: athleisure is not a new concept. It’s been at least a year since this trend took over the fashion world and here we still are… passing off sweats as fashion and calling it street style. Don’t get me wrong – I’m obsessed. It’s brilliant – genius even. Anything that makes my most comfortable clothes acceptable in the outdoor world is 100% Jessica Approved. Winking Face on Apple iOS 10.2

So, how do you style your athleisure gear to feel on-trend? Try throwing on fishnets under a pair of sweats or wear a matching sweatshirt and pant with some pointed-toe boots. If you style your casual pieces with something unexpected, you’re sure to look street style chic. (Cliché, yet appropriate!)
