Still inspired by my recent trip to New Orleans, I was psyched to hear about Boston newcomer Buttermilk & Bourbon. Led by Chef Jason Santos, this hot spot literally brings a classic NOLA menu to Back Bay. I was super anxious to see if it was as authentic as it seemed and, to be honest, I really felt like I was back in The Big Easy.
Walking into Buttermilk and Bourbon is like stepping into a hidden corner of the French Quarter, or right down Bourbon Street, depending on where you’re located amongst the sections of the restaurant. But what may be even better than the atmosphere is the menu (of course). If you’re a Moscow Mule fan, try the My Ma Louisiana cocktail to start. Past that, I think it’s impossible for me to choose my favorite dish… we tried the biscuits, fried chicken thighs, BBQ shrimp, fried pickles, cast iron rabbit and dumplings and pork belly cracklings. I’m full just thinking about it. BUT, if you made me, I’d say the fried chicken and biscuits are absolute must-haves. I’ll admit, we actually took the biscuits we didn’t eat home. Trust me, there’s no way two people could eat four of those things and it would practically be a sin not to eat every bite!
The sugar on top of the beignets?? Your bill comes pinned to a voodoo doll — someone out there is suffering from the success of this place… yikes. Those poor souls aside, you should certainly put Buttermilk & Bourbon on top of your list of must-try Boston restaurants. It’s almost as good as a New Orleans getaway!
