Recently I’ve been super motivated to clean out the old, worn and unused items in my closet to make room (and money) for things that I actually love and wear. One part of my closet that’s taken a hit is the ‘comfy clothes’ pile: IE sweatshirts, sweatpants and t-shirts. I figured it’s worth the $$$ to invest in polished sweats that I can actually wear outside the confines of the apartment. Let’s be honest, there’s certainly no need to hold on to a high school t-shirt that’s riddled with shameful ice cream stains…
So, where’s the first place I thought to look? Madewell of course. It’s the perfect place for high quality basics with an All-American vibe that never go out of style. Let’s just hope my tendency to spill is gone for good, just like those stained clothes are.

Well, February is here and it has come with its fair share (read: feet) of snow and freezing temps. I’m blaming it for my blogging hiatus. There’s little motivation to get up and dressed and more incentive to cuddle on the couch and binge watch Shameless. Anyway…
When it is time to get out of the house, winter dressing is all about layers and piling them on in any creative way you’d like. I chose to start with fishnets (the accessory of the season) + a culotte jumpsuit + some hefty booties + a bandana. Add a duster jacket from one of my favorite brands Vetta Capsule, and a leather one, and my look was complete. #TwoCoatsAreBetterThanOne
Using my go-to basics as the foundation of a look is a no brainer; all that’s left is to throw on a killer coat and some boots. I’m obsessed with the high ankle style of this pair from Public Desire.
And this just in…
I’m happy to share that I am partnering with ALEX AND ANI in support of the American Cancer Society. 20% of the proceeds from the Celebrate Today bangle go to the cause. Shopping definitely feels even better when you can give back in the process. I love that ALEX AND ANI creates bracelets with a cause and works with various organizations to help give back via it’s Charity by Design line – we need more of that in the world! My favorite winter clothing item has to be a black turtleneck. It’s the perfect layering piece and can be the foundation of almost any look… wear alone tucked into a classic pair of jeans and a dainty necklace for a classic vibe or under a leather tank for something more edgy. The best part is you can find this staple at all price points – from Uniqlo to Wolford and ALLSAINTS.

From what I can see, “The Uniform” this winter is an oversized dress, tights and over the knee boots. Minimal effort with maximum effect — gotta love that. Just add accessories: mine are from my new favorite shop LOÉIL.

There’s no denying that the cold weather is officially here in New England. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m all for an eye-catching coat, but when it’s 20°, you just might need something warm and functional.
PS – I told you fishnets were back! Wear under jeans for some extra layers.
